Jerry Wallace

Jerry Wallace ( * December 15, 1928 in Guildford, Missouri; † 5 May, 2008 Corona, California ) was an American pop and country singer.

Biography

Jerry Wallace was born in 1928 in Guildford, Missouri. During World War II he served in the United States Navy. His career in the pop market in the United States began in 1951.

His first, big hit succeeded in 1958 with the single How the Time Flies, up at # 8 on the Billboard charts. He could with the one year later following single Primrose Lane top it success.

After this success, he oriented himself more at the Country at that time. His nickname was "Mr. Smooth " because he sang very soft and quiet.

In the 1960s, he released several albums that ended up in the lower ranks of the charts on several record labels such as Mercury Records and Liberty Records. Only in 1972, after switching to Decca Records, he succeeded with If You Leave Me Tonight I'll Cry a top hit on the country charts. The song was aired in the very popular series Night Gallery. Also, the associated album reached the top position. In the same year Wallace was also for the " Country Music Association Award as Male Vocalist of the Year" nominee, his single To get To You also received a nomination.

In the 1970s, he was still able to achieve some success, his last chart single was 1980 If I Could Set My Love To Music. After he finished his career and only appeared occasionally.

In 2008 he died at the age of 79 years at his home in California. He left his ex- wife Reva Stone, four children and two grandchildren.
