Jerzy Bahr

Jerzy Bahr ( born 1944 in Kraków ) was from 2006 to 2010 Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in the Russian Federation. From 1 March 2005 to 22 December 2005, Bahr was head of the Office of National Security of the Republic of Poland ( Biuro Bezpieczeństwa Narodowego ).

Life and work

Bahr studied at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow sociology. From 1974 he worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of Poland. From 1974 to 1980 Bahr worked for the Embassy of the People 's Republic of Poland in Bucharest.

After the declaration of martial law in Poland in 1981 by General Jaruzelski Bahr fled to Vienna. In Austria in 1983 he was granted political asylum. He worked in the following years for the Radio Free Europe. From 1985 to 1991 he worked for the East European Studies Institute Bern -Freiburg (Fribourg) operates.

In 1989 he returned to Poland. Initially, he worked as advisor to the Polish Embassy in Moscow. In his work for the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1994 to 1996 he was Director of the Department Europe II From 1996 to 2001 held the office of Bahr Polish Ambassador to Ukraine in Kiev. Following this, Bahr was 2001-2005 Ambassador to Lithuania in Vilnius. From 1 March 2005 to 22 December 2005, Bahr was head of the Office of National Security of the Republic of Poland ( Biuro Bezpieczeństwa Narodowego ). Since May 19, 2006 was Bahr Ambassador of Poland to the Russian capital Moscow, he was dismissed from this post on 30 September 2010.

On 13 November 2009 Bahr was supported by the Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski with the highest award of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs - excellent Odznaka Honorowa Bene Merito.
