Jerzy Fitelberg

Jerzy Fitelberg ( born May 20, 1903 in Warsaw, † April 25, 1951 in New York City ) was a Polish composer.

Fitelberg had first lessons from his father Grzegorz Fitelberg and then studied at the conservatories of Warsaw and Moscow. From 1922 to 1926 he was at the Berlin Academic College of Music student of Walter Gmeindl and Franz Schreker.

In 1933 he emigrated to Paris in 1940 and moved to New York. He composed, among others three orchestral suites, a ballet, several concertos, a cello, a clarinet and a piano concerto, a rhapsody for four pianos, chamber music ( including five string quartets ) and piano pieces.
