Jerzy Kropiwnicki

Jerzy Kropiwnicki ( born July 5, 1945 in Częstochowa ) is a Polish politician of the Prawo i Sprawiedliwość ( Law and Justice ) and was Mayor of Łódź.

Life

1968 closed Jerzy Kropiwnicki his studies of foreign trade at the SzkoĹ Główna Handlowa ( SGH, Warsaw School of Economics ). During his studies he was a member of the Socialist Youth ( Związek Młodzieży Socjalistycznej ) and the Polish Youth ( Związek Młodzieży Polskiej ). After graduating, he joined the staff at the University of Łódź, where he received his doctorate in 1973. In 1968 he joined the Związek Nauczycielstwa Polskiego (Polish Teachers' Union ) and remained a member until 1980. 1980 Kropiwnicki joined the Solidarity and worked for the region of Łódź. On 13 December 1981 he organized a protest against the Polish state. On the same day Wojciech Jaruzelski declared a state of emergency in Poland, and Jerzy Kropiwnicki was arrested. In July 1984, he was released under an amnesty. He became a member of the newly formed Zjednoczenie Chrześcijańsko - Narodowe (Christian- National Union) in 1989. He was from 1991 to 1993 and from 2000 to 2002 Vice- President of the Board and from 1997 Chairman of the Regional Board of the Łódź region. At the same time Kropiwnicki was from 1991 to 1993 Member of the Sejm. He was on 23 December 1991 to June 5, 1992 Minister of Labour and Social Policy. In 1997, he was able to win a seat in the Sejm again. Here he was between 16 June 2000 and October 19, 2001 Minister of Regional Development and Construction. 2002 Kropiwnicki Chairman of Zjednoczenie Chrześcijańsko - Narodowe and President of the City of Łódź. In the 2006 local elections Kropiwnicki entered as a candidate of the Prawo i Sprawiedliwość again successfully for the office of Mayor of Łódź. For this office he was called prematurely by a referendum on 17 January 2010. With a participation rate of 22.2 percent voted nearly 95 percent of those voting for his dismissal.
