Jerzy Pilch

Jerzy Pilch ( born August 10, 1952 in Wisła) is a Polish writer.

Life

He studied Polish Philology at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. He then worked from 1989 to 1999 as editor of the well-known liberal Catholic weekly Tygodnik Powszechny. Since then, he is a freelance writer and was until 2006 Columnist of the weekly Polityka. He then moved in the same function for daily Dziennik (Axel Springer Polska).

As early as 1989 he received donated by exiled Poles and lent mainly to younger authors Kościelski price. He was awarded the prestigious Polish literary award, the Nike 2001. In his precisely described, linguistically elaborate works are not missing aspects of the comic, the escalation and the grotesque, not least in the description of his home, of Cieszyn Silesia and the Protestant minority milieu, which he himself also belongs.
