Jerzy Stuhr

Jerzy Stuhr ( born April 18, 1947 in Kraków ) is one of the most versatile Polish actors and directors with Austrian roots - known from film and theater -, professor and honorary doctorate from the University of Silesia in Katowice, Silesian Voivodeship.

Stuhr ended 1970, a Polish Philology studies in Krakow and began an acting training at the State Drama School in Cracow, which he was Rector from 1990 to 1997 and again since 2002, two years later. He was an actor at the Teatr Stary in Krakow and received for his second directorial love stories (1997), in which he also took over the lead role, was nominated for a European Film Award for Best Actor, as well as the FIPRESCI Prize at the International Film Festival in Venice in 1997. Since 1998, Stuhr is a member of the European film Academy. His son Maciej Stuhr (* 1975) is now also a popular Polish actor. For the role of Krzysztof Zanussi Radca in drama persona non grata Jerzy Stuhr received the 2006 Polish Film Award for Best Supporting Actor.
