Jessamine County, Kentucky

Jessamine County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Nicholasville, named for George Nicholas, an attorney general.

Geography

The County is located north-east of the geographic center of Kentucky and has an area of 452 square kilometers, of which three square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Fayette County, Madison County, Garrard County, Mercer County and Woodford County.

History

Jessamine County was formed on December 19, 1798 from parts of Fayette County. It was named after the then plentiful here growing jasmine.

According to the census in 2000 in Jessamine County 39 041 people lived in 13,867 households and 10,663 families. The population density was 87 people per square kilometer. The average age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 96.6 males. For every 100 females aged 18 years old or over, there were 92.8 men statistically.

The median income for a household was $ 40,096, and the median income for a family was $ 46,152. Males have a median income of $ 32,340, women $ 23,771.
