Jesse Hibbs

Jesse John Hibbs ( born January 11, 1906 in Normal, Illinois; † 4 February 1985 in Ojai, California ) was an American film and television director. In the years 1927 and 1928 he played offensive tackle (OT) in the All- American football team the USC Trojans at the University of Southern California.

Life

Football career

Jesse Hibbs was the first captain of the " National Championship teams," the USC Trojans from 1928. Among his teammates in 1926 included, among other Marion Morrison, later also known as the actor John Wayne.

1931 Hibbs played in the NFL ( National Football League) for the Chicago Bears.

He was inducted into the USC Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999.

Hollywood career

Jesse Hibbs began his career in the U.S. film industry, like several other USC players in the 1920s and 1930s, including John Wayne, Ward Bond, Cotton Warburton and Aaron Rosenberg, and became assistant director. His first opportunity as a director, he got in 1953 in the football drama The All American, with Tony Curtis in the title role. Hibbs turned predominantly Western, where often Audie Murphy starred. With him in the lead role, he turned the biopic To Hell and Back ( To Hell and Back ) in 1955, reflecting played Murphy himself. In later years, Hibbs worked mainly for television and has directed such well-known television series such as Perry Mason, Gunsmoke and FBI, as well as in various other Western series.

Jesse Hibbs went into retirement in 1967. He died in 1985 at age 79 from Alzheimer 's disease in Ojai, California.
