Jesse Joensuu

Jesse Joensuu ( born October 5, 1987 in Pori ) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player who is since July 2013 when the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League contract.

Career

Jesse Joensuu began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the junior department of Ässät Pori, for the first team to 2008 he was active from 2003 in the SM- liiga, the top Finnish league. His greatest success with Ässät was reaching the championship final in the 2005/06 season in which they lost HPK Hämeenlinna with 1:3 victories. From 2005 to 2007 the defender was parallel to the game Operation with Ässät Pori to four appearances for the Finnish U20 national team which took part as a guest team in the game operation of the second-rate Mestis.

Towards the end of the 2007/ 08 left Joensuu Ässät Pori and the New York Islanders joined in who had selected him in the NHL Entry Draft in 2006 in the second round as the 60th overall player. However, until season's end he was just in a game for their farm team, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in the American Hockey League on the ice. In the following two years, the former Finnish youth international arrived at his first appearances for the New York Islanders in the National Hockey League, but played almost exclusively for Bridgeport in the AHL. In the 2010/11 season he played in parallel approximately equal number of times for the NHL and the AHL team. Beginning of July 2011 was the Finn a contract for two seasons with HV71 of the Elitserien.

After spending the entire 2011/ 12 in the Elitserien, Joensuu returned to the following season in the National Hockey League back. He signed in June 2012 a one-year contract with the New York Islanders, for the organization of the Finnish national team in North America exclusively been active to date.

In July 2013 Joensuu signed a two -year contract with the Edmonton Oilers.

Internationally

For Finland, Joensuu participated in the U18 World Junior Championships in 2004 and 2005, as well as the U20 World Junior Championships in 2005, 2006 and 2007 in part. At the 2006 U20 World Junior Championships he won the bronze medal with his team.
