Jesse Ventura

Jesse Ventura ( born July 15, 1951 as James George Janos in Minneapolis, Minnesota) from 1999 to 2003, the 38th Governor of the U.S. state of Minnesota. Previously, he worked as a soldier, wrestler, actor and radio host.

Life

Early years

He was born the son of Bernice Martha ( née Lenz) and George William Janos. Both parents served in World War II. The parents had a Slovakian and German descent. He grew up in Minneapolis.

U.S. Navy

From 1 December 1969 to 10 September 1975, he served in the United States Navy, of which the last two years as a reservist. He was a member of a combat diver unit specializing in underwater blasting. However, contrary to popular claims he was not a Navy Seal in the strict sense, since it does not fully completed this training. Properly, however, is that he was listed during his time reservists in a Seal team.

Wrestling career

Janos began his wrestling career in October 1975 at the age of 24 years. He copied his ring character, with feather boa, earrings, various beard styles and especially extravagant clothes, almost completely from his great idol Superstar Billy Graham. Mid-80s, he had to end his career due to health reasons. He even claims that this resulted from the use of Agent Orange during the Vietnam War. In 1987, he starred with Arnold Schwarzenegger's side in the highly successful action movie Predator with. One of his movie quotes I is not got time to bleed ( Eng.: "I do not have time to bleed " ) later became the title of his autobiography. This was followed by eight further appearances in feature films (including The Running Man with Arnold Schwarzenegger ).

Political career

From 1991 to 1995 he held the office of mayor of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.

In the elections for governor of Minnesota in 1998 Ventura ran as candidate of the Reform Party of Minnesota. He later joined the Independence Party of Minnesota, after it had split off from the Reform Party of the United States of America. He won the election narrowly to the candidates of the major parties, the Republicans Norm Coleman ( Mayor of St. Paul ) and the Attorney General Hubert H. "Skip" Humphrey III ( Democratic - Farmer-Labor Minnesota Party ).

During the campaign, he campaigned with the slogan "Do not vote for politics as usual", and he also used it as one of the first politicians to the Internet for campaigning.

During his tenure, led a poor economic development in Minnesota and controversial comments from Ventura to a significant decrease in its popularity ratings. He justified the waiver of a Fall in for re-election in 2003 with the excessive media interest in the private lives of his family.

TV career
