Jesús Castillo

Jesús Castillo Monterroso ( born September 9, 1877 in San Juan Ostuncalco, † April 23, 1946 in Quetzaltenango ) was a Guatemalan composer.

Castillo is at the beginning of an independent Guatemalan music. His works are influenced by Indian music, which he researched, collected and edited. Castilllo was an honorary member of the Académie International d' Histoire in Paris and the Sociedad de Cultura Musical de Costa Rica, as well as an active member of the Sociedad de Geografía e Historia de Guatemala.

The Escuela founded in 1948 Quetzaltenango Nacional de Música is named after him. His brother Ricardo Castillo was known as a composer.
