Jesus Church (Cieszyn)

The Jesus Church in Cieszyn (Evangelical Church of Grace to the name of Jesus ) is located in Cieszyn ( German Teschen ) in the powiat Cieszyński in Silesia in Poland. It was founded as one of the six Protestant churches after the Silesian grace Altranstädt Convention of 1709. From 1740 to 1781 she was the only Protestant church in Upper Silesia. Which belongs to the Diocese of Cieszyn church is considered the largest Evangelical -Augsburg Church building in Poland. She is the only one of the six churches grace that has remained continuously in the hands of the evangelical community today.

History

The church was built from 1709 to 1723 by a native of Opava architects Hans Georg Haus Rücker and Joseph Ried in the Baroque style. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on 13 October 1710. The Rococo main altar with the evangelist figures created in 1766 the local sculptor Joseph Pracker from which the pulpit with the figure of the resurrected Christ on the sounding board comes ( 1782 ). The main altar painting The Last Supper painted Friedrich Oezer. In the apse, next to the high altar is the bust right of the Swedish King Karl XII. and left the baptismal font with classical style features. The portal in Ädikulaform with Tuscan pilasters originated in the 3rd quarter of the 18th century. 1772 a bell tower was attached to the front facade, which contains three bells since 1922.

The exterior of the late Baroque church impresses with its simplicity. The building is 54 m long and 38 m wide .. It is a five-aisled basilica with a semicircular choir and a gable roof with dormers. All windows are shaped as half circles. The four windows storeys of the facade correspond to the three Empor floors above the ground floor. The galleries are integrated into the structure of the Church, they are open to the nave by large semicircular arcades. The stone parapets Empor are supported by square posts. The Sauer organ was renovated in 1900.

The church was registered on November 2, 1956 R-466/56, on March 2, 1960, 205/60 and on 14 December 1977 under A-237/77 in the register of monuments of the Silesian Voivodeship.
