History

Once Boy George had left the band Culture Club, he tried to start a solo career. This he also relatively successfully managed with the singles of his debut album Sold in 1987.

For the next two albums Boy George wanted a new direction by trying on electronic dance music. But the singles of the two albums did not have the desired commercial success were, but placed more often in nightclubs. To return to commercial success, Boy George founded together with other musicians, the band "Jesus Loves You". Because he believed that " Jesus Loves You" would be more successful if nobody would know that he is the head of the band, Boy George took from now on the pseudonym ' Angela Dust " on.

In After the Love, the first song from Jesus Loves You, which was released as a single, Boy George recorded his separation from his ex-boyfriend Jon Moss. Ironically, he wrote the song along with Moss. The first three singles from Jesus Loves You were able to record only moderate success in the UK.

On a trip through India Boy George learned to know the Hare Krishna movement. He was deeply impressed by the Hare Krishna philosophy and then wrote the song Bow Down Mister. This was a crucial turning point for the band, as it was her first religious song. Bow Down Mister was published in 1991 as a single and became not only a hit in the UK, but also in France, Switzerland, Germany and especially in Austria, where it is up to # 2 on the Ö3 Austria Top 40 abolished the single. The next singles were better placed in the Austrian charts than any other country.

Due to the great success was still released the debut album of "Jesus Loves You" in the same year that called itself The Martyr Mantras. Boy George now felt more and more drawn to Hare Krishna. By his own testimony has helped him to overcome his religion heroin addiction.

End of 1991, a remix of Generations of Love and After the Love was released as a single in each case. "Jesus Loves You" in July 1992 gave concerts in St. Petersburg, Riga, Kiev and the highlight of the tour, a concert at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium in front of 35,000 spectators during a Hare Krishna festival.

In December 1992, the release of their second album Popularity Breeds Contempt was planned. As a foretaste of the single Sweet Toxic Love has been published in advance ( with Am I Losing Control as a B- side). However, because the record company Virgin was so disappointed by the chart positions of the single, the album was not released. The remaining material that was recorded for Popularity Breeds Contempt, was not published until today. A short time later, "Jesus Loves You" disbanded.
