Jeuss (? French Jentes; Freiburg Patois Dyintè / i ) is a municipality in the lake district (French: District du Lac ) of the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland.

Geography

Jeuss is located on 544 m above sea level. M., 4.5 km southeast of the district town of Murten (air line). The hamlet extends on the northern edge of the broad Talniederung the Biberen, on the southern edge of the Galmwaldes, in the northern Fribourg plateau.

The area of ​​1.8 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the over-molded by glacial Rhône glacier Molassehöhen between Murten and the Saanen valley. The southern boundary runs along the channelized and straightened Biberen here. From here, the communal land extends north across the beaver mat ( up to 1 km wide flat valley floor ) and on the adjoining heights in Galmwald. At the forest edge of the upper acorn Ried at Galmguet is 590 m above sea level. M. reached the highest point of Jeuss. From the municipality surface 1997 8 % were settlements, 10 % of forest and woody plants and 82 % to agriculture.

To Jeuss the homestead Galmguet include ( 581 m above sea level. M. ) on the southern slope of the upper acorn Ried as well as some individual farms. Neighboring communities of Jeuss are Gurmels, Cressier and Salvenach as well as the community no associated region of the state forest Galm.

Population

With 424 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Jeuss one of the small communities of the Canton of Fribourg. Of the residents 90.9 % are German, 4.1 % French-speaking and 1.8 % speak Portuguese (as of 2000). The population of Jeuss amounted in 1900 to 216 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population fluctuated in the range of 230-260 inhabitants. Only since 1980 (239 inhabitants) a significant population growth with almost a doubling of the population was recorded within 25 years.

Economy

Jeuss was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding have an important place in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available, including companies in the electrical industry and Scaffolding. Jeuss is since 1907 location of the nursing home Galmguet that serves for all municipalities in the surrounding area. A new building was built in 1986. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the regions of Morat and Freiburg.

Traffic

The community is conveniently comparatively quite well developed, even though it is off the major thoroughfares on a road from Salvenach to Laupen. The nearest links to the A1 ( Bern -Lausanne ) is located approximately 6 km from the town center. Through a post bus line that runs from Murten to Duedingen, Jeuss is connected to the public transport network.

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1340 under the name Juentes. 1432 appeared the name Juus and since the 16th century, today's local name is handed down. Jeuss was in the Middle Ages part of the property of the Counts of Thierstein. Later, it came to the domination of Murten. 1475 reached the village as part of the bailiwick of Murten under the joint administration of the estates of Bern and Fribourg. In 1765, many houses were destroyed by fire. After the collapse of the ancien régime (1798 ) Jeuss came to the Canton of Fribourg. During the Helvetic Republic and the subsequent time it belonged to the district of Murten, before it was incorporated in 1848 with the new cantonal constitution in the lake district.
