Jewish Holocaust Museum and Research Centre

The Jewish Holocaust Museum and Research Centre is located in Elsternwick, a suburb of Melbourne in Victoria Australia.

The museum was founded in 1984 by survivors of the Holocaust. Its mission is to commemorate the six million Jews who were murdered between 1933 and 1945 by the National Socialists.

The center was established without considerable financial support from the Australian authorities or other sources and therefore is always on the commitment of Holocaust survivors, directed their families and other volunteers. Thanks to their strong support, the JHC has developed in this area since its inception as one of the most important Australian research centers.

The museum aims to combat racism and promote tolerance in society. A particular focus is the transfer of knowledge about the Holocaust, especially for the younger generation. Every year around 16,000 pupils the museum.

In addition to guided tours for school groups, some of which are operated by Holocaust survivors, the museum offers an adult education program, teacher training courses and lectures open to the public. In collaboration with the charity Jewish Care, the museum also plays an important role in the care and supervision of Holocaust survivors.

Since 2008, the JHC is a place of installation of service abroad in Austria.
