Jiang Jialiang

Jiang Jialiang (Chinese江嘉良, Jiang Jialiang Pinyin; born March 3, 1964 in Zhongshan (Guangdong ) Province ) is a Chinese table tennis player. He was twice world champion in singles and three times with the Chinese team.

Sports career

With 7 years Jiang Jialiang started in a sports boarding with the table tennis, 1976, he was invited to the team of Guangdong Province. Three years later, he was discovered and promoted for the national team. Initial success was the victory in singles at the international championships of Scandinavia in 1979 and France in 1982.

In 1983, he was first nominated for the World Cup. Here he became world champion with the team in China. In the individual he was number 3, he was in double Saike together with Xie runner-up. In 1985 he became the first world champion in singles, 1987, he defended that title by his playoff victory over Jan- Ove Waldner. In these two World Cups he won gold with the team of China, 1987, he finished yet 2nd place in Mixed ( with Jiao Zhimin ).

For his achievements, the Chinese trade union in 1987 awarded him with the " May 1 Medal" from. As early as 1985 he was appointed "Workers of the Year of Guangdong Province ".

After his retirement, he worked abroad as a coach and television commentator. Later he returned to China and earned in Pudong (Shanghai) his living as a businessman. In October 2002 he opened in Pudong, a table tennis school.

Private

Jiang Jialiang is the son of a construction worker and a saleswoman. He has six siblings. He is married to actress Wu Yu Fong.
