Jigme Thinley

Jigme Thinley Yoser ( born September 9, 1952 at the Dzongkhag, Bumthang ) was 2008-2013 Prime Minister of Bhutan. This he was already 20 July 1998 to 9 July 1999, of 30 August 2003 to 20 August 2004.

Thinley acquired the academic degree of Bachelor of Arts ( BA) at the University of Delhi in India. From 1974 to 1976 he studied at the Pennsylvania State University. After graduating with a Master of Public Administration, he returned to Bhutan, and began his political career in the development ministry there. From 1987 to 1989 he was Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bhutan to the United Nations in New York.

Jigme Thinley was Foreign Minister from 1998 to 2003 and from August 2003 to July 2007 Interior and Minister of Culture of Bhutan.

In March 2008, he presented himself as leader of the Bhutanese party for peace and prosperity (DPT ) in the first democratic elections in Bhutan for election. His party won 45 of the 47 seats in the National Assembly. On 9 April 2008, Jigme Thinley Yoser went to the office of Prime Minister. In the elections in July 2013 was subject to his party after his policy of rapprochement with China led to tensions with India. The opposition could decide this issue the election campaign itself.
