Jigsaw (Band)

Jigsaw was a British pop band of the 1960s and 1970s, which is primarily known for their hit 1975 feature Sky High.

Band History

The band was founded in 1966 in the English West Midlands. Originally Jigsaw of six members, all of whom had previously been playing in other bands. Tony Campbell and two other musicians were, for example, been with the Mighty Avengers, Barrie Bernard at Pinkerton 's Colours, which were all already been successful in the UK charts.

Three of the founding members left as a result the band back, next to Campbell and Bernard remained Clive Scott. But came with drummer Des Dyer added a member who not only became the lead singer of Jigsaw, but along with Scott also the main songwriter. For a long time, the band had no great success, and although they released a dozen singles over the years, they could not land a hit.

In 1974, finally one of their songs became a hit, but not by herself with cover versions of Who Do You Think You Are Candlewick Green arrived in the UK and # 21 Bo Donaldson & the Heywoods 15th place in the USA. Already in the following year, Jigsaw then had her breakthrough. They took the song Sky High for the movie The Man from Hong Kong, an Asian- Australian Kung fu movie (including with Jimmy Wang Yu and George Lazenby ), on. The song became a Top 10 hit in their homeland. Also in some other European countries, they reached the top 20 were even more successful Jigsaw in Asia, Oceania and the United States where they achieved top rankings. There in the sequence were also the associated album, also named Sky High, and some other songs successfully.

End of the 70 success was back in the early eighties and the band dissolved gradually to. Scott Dyer and tried in 1983 with the band Casablanca the Euro Vision Song Contest, were at home in the preliminary round but only fourth. Two years later it tried Dyer as a solo singer again with the common composition Energy, but failed again in fourth. Until the 90 they worked together as writers, among others, for Nicki French and Boyzone. Scott also worked with Ian Levine long before he died in 2009. Barrie Bernard also remained in the music business as a DJ, while Campbell retired to civilian life and was a hairdresser.

The song Sky High was founded in 1995 by singer Newton again to a minor hit in England. In the Song New York City by ATC the intro from the song serves as a sample. Furthermore, the beginning of the song until today the theme song of the Schleswig- Holstein magazine, the regional news for Schleswig- Holstein the NDR television.
