Jikji

Jikji is the name of a book in Hanja ( Chinese characters ), which deals with Buddhist themes.

Generally

The book is mainly characterized announced that it was printed with movable metal type in 1377, nearly eight decades before the invention of Gutenberg. From an originally larger issue today 38 pages are received. These are kept in the Oriental Department of the Bibliothèque nationale de France. The Jikji is the oldest surviving printing unit which was printed with movable metal type.

The Jikji was the Buddhist clergy Baegun (白云, also Baegunhwasang ,白云 和 尙; actually Gyeong Han,景 闲; born in 1289 or 1299, died 1374 ) out.

A Korean- German exhibition showed the Jikji in 2003 in Göttingen, Göttingen, together with the 42-line Gutenberg Bible, both of which were included in the UNESCO " Memory of the World " in 2001. A replica was exhibited at the 2005 Frankfurt Book Fair.
