Jim Crawford (racing driver)

Jim Crawford (* February 13, 1948 Dunfermline; † August 6, 2002 in Tierra Verde) was a British racing driver.

Jim Crawford was a mechanic at Chevron, when it turned out that he was faster during testing than the regular driver, who went for Chevron in Formula Atlantic at the start. Team owner Dick Bennett therefore gave him a works car for the last race of the season 1973. 1974 to Crawford built his own racing car in which he almost lost the title in the junior formula against John Nicholson. In 1975, he was a test driver for Lotus in Formula 1 This commitment earned him two appearances in the World Cup. His debut in Formula 1, he was the Grand Prix of Great Britain at Silverstone. Between 1985 and 1993 he was at eight times the 500 miles of Indianapolis at the start. In 1988 he had a good chance to win even up to just before the end of the race. Crawford took over with his Lola - Buick in the 102 round for the first time the lead and remained there until a few rounds before reaching the checkered flag in the top group.
