Jim Folsom, Jr.

James Elisha Folsom, Jr. ( born May 14, 1949 in Montgomery, Alabama ) is an American politician (Democratic Party) and 2007-2011 Vice- Governor of the State of Alabama. From 1993 to 1995 he held the post of governor of Alabama, who had been previously wearing his father Jim Folsom twice.

Early years and political rise

James Folsom received his bachelor's degree in 1974 in political science and history at Jacksonville State University. His political career began in 1979 with the appointment to the Public Service Commission. He was re-elected in 1983. Furthermore, Folsom ran for the U.S. Senate in 1980, but suffered a defeat. Then he applied in 1986 to the office of Lieutenant Governor of Alabama and was elected. He was reelected in 1990.

Governor of Alabama

On April 22, 1993, he was sworn in as governor of Alabama to fill the position by Governor Guy Hunt, who had to leave his post because of a conviction for a violation of the ethics laws. Folsom ran in November 1994 for the governorship, but suffered a defeat against Fob James.

2006 Folsom returned to politics when he was elected Vice- Governor again on November 6. His term began in January 2007 and ended in January 2011.

James Elisha Folsom, Jr. is married to Marsha Guthrie and they have two children.
