Jim Gettys is an American programmer.
He is currently working for Alcatel -Lucent Bell Labs. Prior to January 2009, he was Vice President of Software at the One Laptop per Child project, whose goal was to develop a laptop with a production cost of $ 100. Gettys was responsible for the system software of the laptop. Together with Bob Scheifler he was one of the developers of the X Window System at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Later he worked in the X.Org Foundation Board of Trustees again with X. He was also on the Foundation Board of the GNOME Foundation and also worked for the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). He is the editor of the HTTP/1.1 specification in the Internet Engineering Task Force. Gettys helped establish the handhelds.org community where the development of Linux -based handhelds can be tracked.
