Jim Guthrie (racing driver)

Jim Guthrie (* September 13, 1961 in Gadsden, Alabama ) is a retired American automobile racing driver.

Jim Guthrie debuted in the 1996 Indy Racing League, with moderate success. When the IRL switched to specially made chassis in 1997, Guthrie had to take out a second mortgage to buy a new chassis can. Without sponsors and with the danger of losing his house if he does not succeed, he won the second race in the new chassis at Phoenix International Raceway. For the Indianapolis 500, he could Jacuzzi, a company that manufactures hot tubs, win as a sponsor. Thus he was able to finish the season to end, finished in twelfth place overall and was rookie of the year. In 1998 he took part in four races, but was 500 seriously injured in an accident at Indianapolis. Since then he has gone over to the starting line in any IRL race.

Guthrie is now the owner of the race team Guthrie Racing, which is launched in the Indy Lights Series.
