Jim Hunter (skier)

James Mark "Jim" Hunter (* May 30, 1953 in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan ) is a former Canadian alpine skier. In the 1970s he formed together with Dave Irwin, Dave Murray, Steve Podborski and Ken Read, the quintet known as the Crazy Canucks.

Unlike his colleagues, who were much more successful on the descents, Hunter also launched in the giant slalom and achieved in this discipline numerous places in the points. Even more successful he cut off in the alpine combination in which he even won a bronze medal at the Olympic Winter Games in Sapporo (though this competition only counted as World Cup). Four years later he was at the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck tenth in the downhill.

In his last active racing season 1975/76 he scored the 3rd place in the downhill in Wengen. A severe back injury he suffered in a fall in the downhill at the Canadian championships, ended his career prematurely. In the course of which he had won ten Canadian championship (Giant Slalom 1971, 1973, 1975, 1976, 1977; Slalom 1975, 1976; combination of 1975, 1976, 1977).
