Jim Kerr

James "Jim" Kerr ( born July 9, 1959 in Glasgow, Scotland) is the lead singer and composer of the Scottish rock band Simple Minds.

Biography

Kerr was born the son of Irene and James Kerr and has two brothers (Paul and Mark ).

1975-1976 he played with Charlie Burchill, Brian McGee and others in the beginner band Biba -Rom! . In 1977 he founded with Charlie Burchill, Brian McGee and John Milarky the punk band Johnny And The Self Abusers, which had further ambitions and wanted to be a professional. But after just half a year and the first released single ( Saints and Sinners / Dead Vandals ) broke up the band to make a fresh start in 1978 under the name Simple Minds. After some musicians came and went was at the end of 1978, Charlie Burchill, Jim Kerr, Brian McGee, Derek Forbes and Michael MacNeil Formation along the then grossed records.

Jim Kerr experienced numerous changes in the composition of the band, celebrated in 2008, the 30 -year-old band and stage anniversary and is next to Charlie Burchill as a founding member of the Simple Minds to date (2009) left.

1985 Kerr married Chrissie Hynde, singer of the Pretenders. With her he has a common child, Yasmin Paris (* 1985). The divorce was filed five years later.

From January 1992 to October 1996 Kerr was married to British actress Patsy Kensit. They have a son, James ( * 1992).

Jim Kerr lives in Glasgow ( where he also owns a studio ) and Sicily (Taormina ), where he has built a hotel.

On 14 May 2010 he released his first solo album as Lostboy! a.k.a. Jim Kerr with the same title.

Commitment

As part of his music Kerr sat again for a political topics. So against hunger in Africa (Live Aid concert in 1985 ), for the end of apartheid ( Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute Concert 1988) and peace in Northern Ireland. Well-known songs are Mandela Day Biko and Belfast Child.

Others

Jim Kerr is a supporter of Celtic Glasgow. In the 1990s, he wanted to take over the financially troubled club with some investors. The transaction failed. But he is now active in AS Celtic Taormina in its second, Sicilian home working.
