Jim McGovern (American politician)

James Patrick "Jim" McGovern ( born November 20, 1959 in Worcester, Massachusetts) is an American politician. Since 1997 he represents the state of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Jim McGovern attended Worcester Academy and then studied until 1984 at the American University in Washington DC the subjects of history and administration. In 1972 he was part of the presidential campaign team of U.S. Senator George McGovern, with whom he is not related. He also worked until 1996 for Congressman Joe Moakley. Politically, McGovern joined the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1996, McGovern was in the third electoral district of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Peter I. blood on 3 January 1997. After previous seven elections he can exercise his mandate in Congress today. In his time as a congressman of the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001, the Iraq war and the military mission in Afghanistan fell. McGovern sits in the Agriculture Committee and the Rules Committee and two subcommittees. He is a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and advocate globally for human rights.

Jim McGovern is married. With his wife, he has two children; the family lives in Worcester.
