Jim Playfair

Jim Playfair ( May 22nd, 1964 in Fort St. James, British Columbia ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and current coach. Since June 2011 he has been an assistant coach with the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League. His older brother Larry was also a professional hockey player.

Career

Jim Playfair began his career as a hockey player in Canadian junior Western Hockey League in which he was active for the Portland Winter Hawks and Calgary Wranglers from 1981 to 1984. During this period, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1982 in the first round than a total of 20 players from the Edmonton Oilers. It was followed by two seasons as an assistant coach with the Michigan K- Wings of the IHL before he was head coach from 2000 to 2003 at the Saint John Flames of the AHL. With the farm team of the Calgary Flames of the NHL he won in the 2000 /01 season the Calder Cup. During the season 2002/ 03 he was promoted to Assistzenztrainer the Calgary Flames after their head coach Al MacNeil had been sacked. During the season 2006/ 07 Playfair was responsible for the NHL team the Flames, had to go to the Erstrundenaus in the Stanley Cup playoffs but Mike Keenan soft. Nevertheless, he remained Calgary two years in the extended coaching staff worked before he got the position as head coach at Calgary's newly founded AHL farm team Abbotsford Heat for the season 2009/10.
