Jim Rotondi

Jim Rotondi ( born August 28, 1962 in Butte, Montana) is an American jazz trumpeter, flugelhorn player, bandleader and teacher.

Life

Rotondi had first piano lessons from his mother and joined with twelve years to the trumpet as his main instrument. After the end of high school, he studied in the academic program of the North Texas State University. In 1984 he obtained the first place in the International Trumpet Guild 's Jazz Trumpet Competition. He completed his studies in 1984 at North Texas State University, moved to New York in 1987, where he worked with artists such as Ray Charles, Lionel Hampton, Toshiko Akiyoshi Jazz Orchestra which, Lou Donaldson, Curtis Fuller and George Coleman ( Danger High Voltage). In the late 1990s he began to work with his own bands; 1996 appeared on the label Criss Cross Album Introducing Jim Rotondi, in which among others Eric Alexander, Billy Drummond and Larry Goldings participated. In his other albums on Criss Cross or the Sharp Nine label he played with Joe Locke, Harold Mabern, Steve Davis, Mulgrew Miller, David Hazeltine, Jesse Davis, Ray Drummond and Chris Potter.Rotondi also participated in recordings of Eric Alexander, Paul Boll Back, Steve Davis, David Hazeltine, Mike LeDonne, Cecil Payne and One for All with the formation. In 2005 he worked with his album Iron Man with a piano -less quintet, consisting of tenor saxophonist Jimmy Greene, vibraphonist Steve Nelson, bassist Doug Weiss and drummer Bill Stewart.
