Jim Rygiel

Jim Rygiel ( born February 17, 1955 in Kenosha, Wisconsin) is an American VFX supervisor who received a total of three Oscars for The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Life

He went to the St. Joseph Catholic High School in Kenosha. He then graduated from the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee Bachelor in visual arts. It was followed by the master's degree in fine arts, he in 1980 at the Otis Parsons School of Design, graduating (now renamed Otis College of Art and Design). After graduating, he worked from 1980 to Pacific Electric Pictures, one of the first companies that dealt with computer animation for commercials and film market.

In 1983 he moved to Digital Productions, for which he in 1984 as a senior technical manager at the movie worked Starfight. After positions with Pacific Data Images and Metro Light he was asked in 1989 if he wants to build a computer animation film department at the Boss Studios and conduct. After just one year, the department has grown to over 75 animators and produced in the following years, films like Batman Returns, Last Action Hero and Starship Troopers. After the company was forced to close in 1997, he worked on films such as Star Trek: Insurrection, 102 Dalmatians and The Fast and the Furious. In the years 2001-2003 he worked on the Lord of the Rings trilogy. For all three films, he received the Oscar for Best Visual Effects respectively. He is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
