Jimmie Nicol

Jimmie Nicol ( born August 3, 1939 in London as James George Nicol ) is a British drummer who in 1964 committed for nine concerts of The Beatles as a substitute for the indisposed Ringo Starr and became world -famous overnight.

As Ringo Starr fell ill shortly on 3 June 1964, the Beatles producer George Martin and their manager Brian Epstein decided to Starr to be replaced by Jimmie Nicol to an imminent tour not to have to cancel. George Martin had recently worked with Nicol at a recording with Tommy Quickly. Nicol was called home in London and was found an hour later at Abbey Road Studios in order to rehearse with the surviving Beatles their live program. At a subsequent recording session Nicol, however, did not participate. The next day he played with Paul McCartney, John Lennon and George Harrison in Copenhagen ( Denmark). There was no time to dress Nicol, he wore Starrs suit that did not fit him. This was followed by eight more concerts until Ringo Starr was well again and on 14 June 1964, his band members for a concert in Melbourne ( Australia) returned.

Jimmy Nicol published in the period following two singles with his band The Shubdubs, but were not successful, and played for a time in the Swedish group The Spotnicks.
