Jimmy Bruno

Jimmy Bruno ( born July 22, 1953 in Philadelphia ) is an American jazz guitarist, teacher and author.

Life and work

Jimmy Bruno is active in the jazz scene of Philadelphia since the early 1970s; the age of 19 he went with Buddy Rich's band on tour. Later he headed the backing of Frank Sinatra, for several years worked in Los Angeles before he returned to Philadelphia. Since the early 1990s, he worked in his hometown as a music teacher and author of several textbooks; since he took on a series of albums for the Concord Jazz label, where musicians such as Joey DeFrancesco, Howard Alden, Frank Vignola, Joe Beck and Jack Wilkins participated. In 1997, he performed with his band of bassist Craig Thomas and drummer Vince Ector at the Blue Note (New York); with this was the alto saxophonist Bobby Watson, Charlie Parker tunes like " segment ", " Au Privave " and " Anthropology " contributed. In 1999, he starred again with his trio at the Blue Note, this time with Scott Hamilton as a guest. Last Bruno took the album on Maple Shade Avenue in a trio with bassist Jeff Pedras and vibraphonist Tony Miceli.

His main influences Bruno is one of the guitarist Johnny Smith, Hank Garland, Joe Pass, Tal Farlow, Wes Montgomery, Howard Roberts, Jim Hall and Pat Martino.
