Jimmy Carl Black

Jimmy Carl Black ( February 1, 1938 in El Paso, Texas, United States of America as James Inkanish Jr.; † 1 November 2008 victory village, Germany ) was an American drummer and singer. He became famous especially with the Zappa band The Mothers of Invention and through the film 200 Motels.

Life

Jimmy Carl Black played since the age of six piano. In 1958 he began to play drums. His first single he took in 1962 with the group The Keys to. In 1964 he founded with Roy Estrada, the group Soul Giants. 1965, first met Ray Collins, and shortly thereafter Frank Zappa to the band, which eventually became known, after several name changes as The Mothers of Invention. With this band Black attended many live performances and was involved in eight albums. In addition, he contributed to three Zappa solo projects, the albums produced by Zappa Permanent Damage the Groupie GTO band 's Trout Mask Replica and Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band.

In 1970, the group Black Geronimo Black, Bunk Gardner starred in the well and the two albums brought out. In 1971 he was in Frank Zappa's film 200 Motels as Lonesome Cowboy Burt together with musicians such as Ringo Starr, Mark Volman, Howard Kaylan and Keith Moon in front of the camera.

After various musical projects he started in 1980 to play with the band The Grandmothers Songs of the Mothers of Invention and original compositions. Ten albums were released until the group in 2002, newly formed without Contribute Blacks. Even with the Zappa cover band The Muffin Men Jimmy Carl Black stepped on, among other things, on the Zappanale 2003 in Bad Doberan.

After the death of his first wife, he married a German and lived in Germany since the 1990s.

The last two years of his life have accompanied the Bavarian Höpfling and during his performances with the camera, the filmmakers Sigrun Köhler and Wiltrud Baier Jimmy Carl Black. The movie " Where's the beer and when to do we get paid? " was released in theaters in the summer of 2013.

Jimmy Carl Black died on November 1, 2008 victory village on cancer. He leaves behind his wife and six children.
