Jimmy Eat World

Jimmy Eat World is an American band from Mesa, Arizona.

Career

Jimmy Eat World was founded in 1993 by singer / guitarist Jim Adkins, drummer Zach Lind, guitarist Tom Linton and bass player Mitch Porter in Mesa, Arizona. The band's name comes from a drawing, painted Toms younger brother Ed at the age of eight years due to a dispute with his somewhat overweight brother Jim and Jimmy Eat World called to express his brother was so thick that he could eat the whole world. When Tom Linton saw the picture, he was of the ( grammatically incorrect) lettering so impressed that he proposed to name the band after that.

In 1994, the band recorded their self-financed debut album, Jimmy Eat World. It was published with a print run of only 2000 pieces at the Independent label Wooden Blue and is now a coveted collector's item. Shortly after, bassist Mitch Porter left the band for personal reasons and Rick Burch, another school friend who was a new member.

Discovered in 1995, a talent scout and the band Jimmy Eat World signed a recording contract with Capitol Records. There, in 1996, the band released their second album Static Prevails, which became a moderate success in the U.S. and led to extensive touring. Across the Atlantic, the CD due to lack of commitment by Capitol Records but was not published.

1999 also produced album Clarity was released initially only in the U.S., where Jimmy Eat World now playing to sold-out venues. The single Lucky Denver Mint was first published by Capitol Records when the song on national radio had long been a success.
