Jimmy Gabriel

James Gabriel ( born October 10, 1940 in Dundee) is a former Scottish footballer and football coach.

Playing career

Gabriel began his active career at the Tyneside Boys Club and Dundee North End. In 1957 he came to good performances at Dundee United. His debut for the first team of the Scots he gave on August 13, 1958 at the Scottish Cup against FC Motherwell. In 1960 he left Scotland in the direction of Liverpool. Gabriel hired for a fee of £ 27,000 at Everton. With the English he won the local championship in 1963 and the Cup in 1966. In March 1967 he had to leave the Toffees. The Southampton FC paid for the Scots a transfer fee of £ 42,500.

After only one year, he joined the AFC Bournemouth and anhschließend to Swindon Town. 1974 Gabriel moved to the U.S., where he was active for five years with the Seattle Sounders. From 1977 on, he was, until his release in 1979, even player-coach of the West Coast footballers. Internationally, he has been used twice for the Scottish national football team. Six times was active as captain of the U -23 Scotland.

Coaching career

After two years as player-coach in Seattle and a Cup final which was lost, we went to the San Jose Earthquakes. After only two years, he ended his coaching career in the United States. In 1986 he returned to England and trained to AFC Bournemouth. From 1990 on, he was active in the coaching staff of Everton. In the years 1990, 1993 and 1994, Gabriel was even head coach of the Toffees. The Scot remained until 1997 on the coaching staff of the guys from Liverpool. In the same year he returned to his second home U.S. and until 2005 he was on the coaching staff of his heart club Seattle Sounders operate. Since 2005, Gabriel lives in retirement.
