Jimmy Jackson (footballer)
James " Jimmy" Jackson ( born September 15, 1875 in the county of Lanarkshire, Scotland, †? ) Was a Scottish- Australian football players.
Career
The Scottish-born Jackson, migrated as two years with his family to Australia. As a teenager, he played football Down Under before he again returned to Scotland in 1893. As a youth player he played at Newton Thistle. 1894, Jackson wrote a contract with the Glasgow Rangers. He was the only " Legionnaire " of the team. In August 1897, he was sold to Newcastle United. In 1899 he signed a contract at Woolwich Arsenal. His debut for the Reds he was against Leicester Fosse on September 2, 1899. Jackson played at Arsenal either left-back or on the outdoor track. In 1905 he became player-manager of Leyton Orient. After just one year he went to West Ham United a year later to the Rangers return. In 1907, he ended his career and was a blacksmith. In 1911, he gave a brief comeback at FC Greenock Morton. Jackson's sons James and Archie were also footballers. James played a long time at Liverpool and Archie stood at Sunderland FC and Tranmere Rovers under contract. His nephew, who also was called Archie was a successful Australian cricketer.
