Jimmy Van Alen

James Henry Van Alen ( born September 19, 1902 in Newport, Rhode Iceland, † July 3, 1991 ) was an American tennis player and functionary.

Biography

Van Alen was playing tennis single and double in the U.S.. His greatest service to the sport of tennis in 1963 was the invention of the tie-break, which was officially incorporated in 1970 in the tennis rules and the " VASSS " ( Van Alen Streamlined Scoring System). He founded in 1954 the International Tennis Hall of Fame, into which he was inducted in 1965 itself. The premises are located in the Newport Casino.
