Jimmy Watson (ice hockey)

James Charles "Jimmy" Watson ( born August 19, 1952 in Smithers, British Columbia ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player (defender) who played from 1972 to 1982 for the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League.

Career

During his time Junior Watson played with Mike Rogers, Danny Gare and Bob Nystrom at the Calgary Centennials in the WCHL. In the NHL Amateur Draft 1972, the Philadelphia Flyers brought him in the third round as the 39th

After a year at the Richmond Robins in the AHL, he managed already to the end of the 1972/73 season the leap to the Flyers. There he helped in the beginning his nine- year older brother Joe. With his extraordinary will and its body-hugging, intimidating style of play he adapted very well to the " Broad Street Bullies " as they called the Roughnecks with the Flyers. He and his team won the mid-1970s twice the Stanley Cup. In the following years he was a regular participant in the NHL All-Star Game. Also in the Canada Cup in 1976, he stood in the selection of NHL players who represented Canada and won the title here.

In the 1978/79 season he went for the first time without his brother Joe, who had left the team. A year later, he led the league in the plus / minus rating. In the 1980/81 season he suffered a back injury that prevented him from playing for a long time on Hockey. He returned for the following season back in the squad of the Flyers and finished in the summer of 1982 his career.
