Jinja District

Jinja is a district (municipality) in eastern Uganda with 413 937 inhabitants. Like almost all 78 districts of Uganda, he is named after its chief town.

Geography

Jinja is bordered to the north by the districts of Kayunga and Kamuli, on the west by Mukono, Iganga in eastern and Mayuge in the southeast. The district consists of eleven sub-districts.

Climate

The province is Jinja precipitation conveniently located between the Lake Kyoga in the north and the great Lake Victoria in the south. Nevertheless, it was especially in the nineties to pronounced drought, what the rain average of 1994 - 1999 expressed annually only 250.17 mm. The Decade 2000 - 2009 brought it under account of the years 2000/2001 and 2003/2004 to respectable 531.22 millimeters of rainfall annually. The wettest year was 2002 with 749.58 mm and the driest 2006 with 276.12 mm. The most violent overthrow of rain fell on 10 May 2000 with 192.28 liters per square meter.

The rainy season lasts in Jinja theoretically the year. Especially low precipitation months are usually June and September.
