Active reactors ( gross ):

The nuclear power plant Chin- Shan is the first commercial nuclear power plant in Taiwan. The plant NPP KKCS located in Jinshan district of the city of New Taipei in the north of the island, directly on the coast.

The plant consists of two 604 -megawatt boiling water reactor from General Electric. Chin- Shan 1 was critical in October 1977 and was connected in December 1978 to the network. Chin- Shan 2 was in November 1978 critical and connected to the grid in July 1979.

The facility was estimated at $ 0.42 billion and $ 0.99 billion should have cost.

Incident

On March 2, 2001, a fuel rod was damaged in a fuel rod change.

Nuclear waste

The Taiwanese nuclear waste ( about 100,000 barrels) superimposed partly on the island of Lan Yu in the southeast of the island. Under an agreement of 2002, no more waste to be stored there, however. Since 2005, two intermediate bearings ( about 40,000 barrels) in nuclear power plant Kuosheng and Chin Shan in operation.

Others

Actually, the government had in 2001 decided to build no further nuclear power plants and to phase out the existing license. Taiwan is a country with numerous earthquakes, and the facilities of Chin Shan and Kuosheng are in very densely populated areas. Thus, the nuclear power plant Chin Shan would in 2017 have to go from the network. 2007, the consensus but was called into question and discusses an extension of the term to 20 years.
