Jintian Uprising

The JINTIAN Uprising ( Chinese金田 起义, Pinyin JINTIAN Qiyi ) marked the beginning of the Sino -Christian God's kingdom of the Taiping movement in the mid-19th century.

The onset and progression

Hong Xiuquan (1814-1864), the leader of the uprising, came from a peasant family in Hua county in Guangdong. After the founding of the Society for the worship of God (拜 上帝 会, Bai hui shangdi ) he called later, on January 11, 1851, his 30th birthday ( according to the traditional Chinese calendar ), the uprising in the village JINTIAN, Circle Guiping Autonomous Region Guangxi, from. He organized an army and called his regime the " Heavenly Kingdom of Eternal Peace " ( Taiping Divine Land ), his army, " army for the eternal peace " ( Taiping jun太平 军) and proclaimed himself wang to the " Heavenly King " ( Tian天王 ).

In September 1851, the Taiping army conquered the city of Yong'an (永安) (now Mengshan county, Guangxi Autonomous Region ) and established a new military and political system.

The Qing government sent a strong troops to encircle the city. In April 1852, the Taiping army broke through the encirclement and moved from Guangxi in from the north via Hunan, where it was enthusiastically welcomed by the local population and considerably strengthened, she reached out to stroke.

In January 1853 it occupied Wuchang ( now part of Wuhan), the capital of Hubei province. Meanwhile, she had grown to 500,000 men. In February, she gave up the city and moved eastward along the Yangtze River. The Qing troops broke down without a fight.
