Jirishanca

The Jirishanca is a 6,094 meter high mountain in the Peruvian Andes, which is located at the northern end of the Cordillera Huayhuash. His concise form, an ice-covered pyramid, makes him visually the higher neighboring peaks dominate. Because of its shape the Jirishanca is also called " the Matterhorn of Peru ". His Indian name translates as " icy hummingbird beak" thing its form also pictorially describes.

History

After his first mapping in 1939 by a group led by explorer Hans Kinzl a number of first ascents of the very difficult summit were tried. Only in 1957 succeeded two Austrians, Toni Egger and Siegfried Jungmeir to climb the summit. From the experiments, since the following were very few successful.
