The Jizera ( Iser German, Polish Izera ) is a right tributary of the Elbe in the Czech Republic.
Course
The Jizera originates in the Jizera Mountains near the Smrk ( Tafelfichte ).
The right Jizerka ( Small Iser) in the Jizera Mountains has its source above the village of Jizera and flows east of Bukovec in the Jizera. The left Jizerka ( Small Iser) springs in the Giant Mountains west of Spindleruv Mlyn and ends in the village of Hrabačov Jilemnice in the Jizera.
The Jizera has a catchment area of 2,193 km ² and ends after 164 km in Lázně Toušeň into the Elbe.
Name and origin
According to the current state of research is the name of the river on the hypothetical Indo-European root it or is in the significance is attributed " ( flowing ) water," which in today's languages on the solid state of water ( " ice " ) has narrowed.
