Giya was according to Chinese sources, an uncle of the tyrant Zhou, the last king of the Shang dynasty. At the fall of the dynasty he was in jail and was released from the Zhou King Wu. Since he did not want to live under the new dynasty, he moved with 5,000 supporters in the area of ​​today's Korea, where he founded his own kingdom.
