The Jizzax Province ( Uzbek: Jizzax Viloyati, Жиззах вилояти, English: Jizakh; pronunciation: [ dʒiz aχ ː ] ) is a Viloyat ( province ) in central Uzbekistan. The province is bordered to the south and southeast by Tajikistan, the west by the province of Samarkand, in the northwest of the province of Navoi, on the north by Kazakhstan, and on the east by the province Sirdaryo. The area of ​​the province is 20,500 km ², the population of 1,096,766 people, of whom about 80 % live in rural areas (as of June 2008).

The provincial capital, has 146 910 inhabitants Jizzax; other major cities include Dostlik, Gagarin, Gallaorol, Paxtakor, Dashtobod and Zomin. Jizzax was formerly part of the province Sirdaryo, but was spun off in 1973, which became a separate Jizzax Viloyat. 1988 Jizzax was back in 1990 and spun off again and around the district Yangiobod ( previously part Sirdaryos ) extended in 1999.

Climatically Jizzax is characterized by a continental climate, with mild winters and hot, dry summers. Jizzaxs economy is primarily based on agriculture. The main crops are cotton and wheat; many fields experienced a strong irrigation. Natural resources that are found in the province, are lead, zinc, iron and limestone. The Jizzax province has a network of 2500 km of paved roads.

Special attractions in the province are the National Park Zomin in the Turkestan Range and the artificially created lake Aydarkol.

Jizzax is divided into twelve districts ( tuman ) and the two independent cities Dashtobod and Jizzax shared.
