Jølster

Jølster is a commune in the Norwegian province of Sogn og Fjordane. It lies on the inner Sunnfjord ( Indre Sunnfjord ). The municipality is bordered to the north by Gloppen and Stryn, to the east by Luster and Sogndal, to the south and west by Forde and to the northwest by Naustdal. There are two villages in the municipality, and Vassenden Skei. Skei is the commune center. The highest mountain in the municipality is called Snønipa, it is 1,827 meters high. The name comes from Jølster norrønen term " jolmster ", which means something like sound or noise and refers to the sound of the river Jølstra.
