Band History

Jay Ferguson (keyboards, piano, vocals and guitar) and Mark Andes (bass and vocals ), who had previously left the band Spirit, Jo Jo Gunne founded together with Andes ' brother Matt Andes (guitar, vocals) and William " Curly" Smith (drums, vocals and harmonica ), and signed a record deal with the newly formed record label Asylum Records. Your group name, they have the same Chuck Berry song borrowed from the year 1958, which nevertheless also announced the program of the band: No nonsense rock ' n ' roll.

The decoupled from the self-titled 1972 debut album 's first single Run Run Run was also the only hit of the group: Top 30 in the U.S. and in the UK ranked 6th addition to this rock-pop song with catchy ( " doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo, run - run - run " ) offers the first work hard, no-frills West Coast rock and boogie with funk and soul - moments and is one of the most compelling releases of the group. Mark Andes left the band thereafter and was replaced by Jimmie Randall.

The album cover for the third LP Jumpin 'the Gunne (1973 ) shows the band members side by side in a large brass bed. On the back floats diagonally across them a stout, naked woman, while a little pig to her looks on the floor going up. The Innersleeve reveals the pig and the thick woman like her nose facing each other on the nose. The album credits are noted on her in a way, like pieces of beef are advertised on the drawing of a cow in butchers. This widespread than tasteless perceived illustration was made responsible to ensure that the sales figures of the band decreased rapidly, while the album itself offers solid workmanlike but uninspired mainstream rock without special highlights.

After Jumpin 'the Gunne Matt Andes left the band and was replaced first by star Donaldson and afterwards by John Staehely, who had previously played on the Spirit album Feedback. The last original album by Jo Jo Gunne So .. Where's the show?
