Joachim Gans

Joachim Gaunse (also goose ) is considered the first documented Jew in the area of ​​present-day United States of America. He lived in the 16th century.

Life

Gaunse was born in Prague and was first mentioned in 1581 in writings. In 1584 he was recruited by Walter Raleigh for an expedition to North America. There, a permanent settlement should be established. Later he left North America and went to Bristol.
