Joachim Gottschalk
Joachim Gottschalk ( born April 10, 1904 in Calau; † November 6, 1941 in Berlin) was a German actor.
Life and reception
Joachim Gottschalk, son of a doctor, attended high school in Cottbus and drove four years after graduating from high school at sea. After leaving service, he took acting lessons in Cottbus and Berlin. During an engagement at the Volksbühne Württemberg in Stuttgart, he met his future wife, actress Meta Wolff know. On May 3, 1930, she married in Halberstadt and in February 1933 was their son Michael was born.
After the seizure of power by the Nazi regime was founded on 1 August 1933, the Ministry of Arts ( RTK). Only whose members had the right to be active in the German Reich in a theater professional. Requirement for membership was the Aryan certificate so that Jewish actors could not be a member of the RTK.
This Gottschalk had Jewish woman prohibition, and Joachim Gottschalk was able to continue his acting career only under secrecy of his family situation. After an engagement in Leipzig Gottschalk played from 1934 to 1938 in Frankfurt am Main, before he moved to Berlin's Volksbühne. His theatrical achievements made him one of the most popular actors of the imperial capital. In 1938 he began his film career at the UFA with a starring role on the side of Brigitte Horney in Wolfgang Liebeneiner you and me. In the following years he made more films. After the war began increasing the pressure of the Propaganda Ministry on the successful Star. Hans Hinkel, Special Representative for " personal culture " demanded by Joachim Gottschalk divorce, but Gottschalk refused. In 1941, he was not occupied at the Berlin stage.
When Joachim Gottschalk saw no way out, he committed, his wife Meta and his son on November 6, 1941 in her apartment in Berlin -Grunewald suicide. Joseph Goebbels ( Reich Minister for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda ) forbade any obituary.
The grave of the Gottschalk family is located on the southwest Stahnsdorf near Berlin. Since 1999, it is run as an honorary grave of Berlin. 1957 was erected a designed by sculptor Knud Knudsen bust of the singer in the foyer of the spectacle Frankfurt am Main, which was in 2014 handed over to the Culture Department of the City.
