Joachim Hahn

Joachim Hahn ( born August 12, 1942 in Chemnitz, † April 27, 1997 in Essen ) was a German prehistorians. He was an expert on the Upper Palaeolithic.

Life

Joachim Hahn began his studies in 1962 at the University of Cologne, further stations were Talence ( Bordeaux University ) and the University of Tübingen. The promotion took place in Cologne, Germany with a thesis on The Aurignacian in Central and Eastern Europe, which was published in 1977. Since 1973 he was a research assistant at the University of Tübingen. The subsequent habilitation was there on the topic of figurative representations of the Aurignacian in Southwest Germany and its position in the Upper Paleolithic art. Hahn taught starting in 1985 as academic advice and lecturer at the Institute of Prehistory and Early History of the University of Tübingen. In 1988 he was appointed there as adjunct professor. Guest lecturers led him to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, the State University of New York at Birmingham, the University of Paris and the University of Zurich. He died at the age of 54 years from the consequences of a cancer suffering.

Hahn led excavations, especially in the Ach Valley, in caves of the Swabian Alb ( Geißenklösterle at Blaubeuren, Hohler Fels at Schelkingen ), by. Here are some important discoveries were made. Due to its significant excavations in the area around the small town of Baden- Württemberg Blaubeuren the local grammar school received in his honor in 2006, the name Joachim Hahn High School.
