Joachim Merz

Joachim Merz ( born October 26, 1948 in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe ) is a German economist. His research focuses on welfare economics, income and income distribution, wealth, time use ( time budget research ), time and income poverty, taxes, labor, consumption, economic and social policy with a focus on liberal professions, self-employed and salaried workers.

Life

Merz studied business administration and business education at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, where he in 1979 with a dissertation on " The expenditure of households - A mikroökonometrisches model for the Federal Republic of Germany " Dr. rer. pol. received his doctorate.

In 1989 he completed his habilitation at the same university in economics and econometrics with the theme " market and non-market regular activities of private households - Theoretical approach, representative microdata, micro-econometric analysis and micro-simulation economic and social policies for the Federal Republic of Germany ".

Since 1991 he has been the director of the Research Institute of Liberal Professions (FFB ) of the University of Lüneburg. He is the editor of several scientific journals and book series, an advisor on scientific committees and referee for numerous international scientific journals. Among other things, the 'electronic International Journal of Time Use Research ' ( eIJTUR ), the CREPS book series ' Center for Research in Entrepreneurship, Professions and Small Business Economics ' ( Lit Verlag), the FFB book series ' Research Institute Liberal Professions ( FFB) ' ( NOMOS Verlag) and " The Review of Income and Wealth '. In 1998 he founded the ' Research Network on Time Use' ( RNTU ), can be searched on the website via a front-end with an information system on this issue.

His current areas of teaching at the University of Lüneburg are statistics, regression analysis, Microeconometrics, panel analysis, labor market, income distribution and Empirical Research in Economics.
